Perinatal Mood Anxiety Disorders

If you are wondering why you aren't as happy as you expected to be after the birth your baby, and why you just cannot seem to bounce back to your old self, you may be experiencing postpartum depression, anxiety, or another postpartum issue. We want to help, so we have listed some resources to help you gain perspective on what you are experiencing. After looking through our information, your doctor should be your first call. He or she is your best advocate to get back to feeling more like yourself.

PMAD stands for Perinatal Mood Anxiety Disorders, encompassing a wider variety of diagnoses formerly known as postpartum depression. Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition is passionate about having resources to address PMAD in the Keys, as it comes to the forefront of maternal and child health in our community.

We have licensed marriage and family therapists available to talk with you, and at certain Tot Times.

Mothers are welcome to come at any point during Tot Time, and infants are welcome.

Be sure you read their article on Postpartum Depression and Anxiety. It gives you a good overview of the emotional issues that can develop after giving birth. Their online quiz can help you determine if you might be suffering from postpartum depression, and will help you start a discussion with your healthcare provider.  Some of their web content is available in Spanish, so look for En español links.
