LOCAL COVID-19 UPDATE
The Florida Keys Healthy Start Coalition will continue to provide virtual services for the foreseeable future. Although the Keys have undertaken the gradual process to open businesses in our community, the Coalition is committed to taking extra steps to protect the health of pregnant women and children in Monroe County. We will continue to err on the side of caution to allow families not yet comfortable with face to face interaction to obtain services and access programs.
As has been the case since March, please feel free to continue to reach out by phone (305) 293-8424, or contact us via our chat option, or fill out client assistance forms online to seek assistance with diapers, formula, access to or transportation to prenatal/infant/toddler care, car seats, or other unexpected needs.
Monroe WIC Offering Assistance to Families in Monroe County
The Florida Department of Health in Monroe County’s WIC (Special Supplemental Food Program for Women Infants and Children) offers food/nutrition/breastfeeding assistance to low income pregnant women or families with infants or children under the age of 5 years who reside in Monroe County. Those individuals/families who meet this criteria and are experiencing a loss of income due to the COVID-19 crisis are encouraged to sign up for WIC to help with food costs. Families that meet this criteria and are currently receiving unemployment or Medicaid benefits automatically qualify financially for WIC benefits. Others will need to provide proof of income and/or explain income loss to qualify.
