Keys Healthy Start Coalition participates in the Florida Outreach
Childbirth Education Program. We have several certified childbirth
educator classes to choose from. These classes are open to all moms
and dads in the Keys, no matter where you plan to give birth. The
focus is prepared childbirth, comfort, relaxation, and informed choices
during birth. Please call the childbirth class location nearest
you for dates and times.
Train
to be a childbirth educator in the community
and help serve our clients!
What
the program involves:
-
Classroom instruction, and precepted guidance to becoming a childbirth
educator.
-
Training
in FOCEP curriculum with the opportunity to transfer to a national
certification.
-
Teach
education topics in maternal and child health such as nutrition,
childbirth education, early pregnancy wellness, labor and birth,
postpartum, and breastfeeding.
The
Florida Outreach Childbirth Education Program is a state-wide organization
funded by Department of Health state grants, which promotes childbirth
education for all women in the target communities.
Educator
trainees receive curriculum, text books, and study materials as well
as an up-to-date, evidence-based instruction experience.
To
meet the requirements, you must:

attend
the 48-hour training session
-
pass
a written a test
-
observe
and support of at least two births
-
observe
of a series of classes taught by an experienced educator
-
evaluate
teaching of a series under the supervision of a certified educator
-
attend
a community meeting on women's health issues.
You have one year
to complete all requirements after your training workshop. Ideally,
you will need to have access to a birthing hospital or center,classes,
and meetings in your community.
All educators,
upon completion, teach independently in areas of childbirth education
within their community in private clinics, hospitals, community centers
and even homes.
